The Boom Years:
1945–1970

Brokerage in 1952

Starting in the profession was a bit different back in the 1950s. In 2002, Past President George King was asked about what he saw as the most significant change in real estate: “Well, considering that when I joined real estate in 1959 and I paid $2 and got a license, I think the big exchange is the standards of entering the real estate business  and the continuing education that is now required and necessary.”

Did you know?

  • In 1955, 300 female REALTORS®, 14 of  whom were brokers, attended the Women’s Division annual tea at the Granite Club. Even at that time, “trying to gather information about the history of women in real estate is almost like looking for needles in haystacks – partly because it is a relatively new field for women and partly because the city is so large and they are so separate in their work. There are husband and wife teams working together, and in some cases, the wives have carried on after the husbands passed away” (October 24, 1955)
