  • In 1954, President Bert Willoughby stated that the worst of the wartime housing shortages were over, and that “I believe 1955 will be a year when buyers look around and demand value for the dollar.” Willoughby also mentioned the new trend of demolishing old buildings to put up new apartment buildings and commercial properties, especially in the Bloor and Jarvis, Avenue Road and St. Clair and near the Summerhill and Wellesley subway stations (The Globe and Mail, December 25, 1954)
