- By 1939, REALTORS® were facing an unprecedent demand for housing. George E. Brown, a real estate broker in the Humber Valley, received 125 inquiries the day after one ad appeared. “The interest in houses between $2,500 and 3,000 astounded me,” he said, “and the most unfortunate thing is that no one is attempting to meet the demand.”
