Celebrating 100 Years
The Toronto Regional Real Estate Board (TRREB) was founded on November 29, 1920, as the Toronto Real Estate Board. This year marks TRREB’s 100th year anniversary, and at every step of the way, TRREB Member REALTORS® have supported its evolution.
From helping buyers and sellers navigate the real estate process, TRREB Member REALTORS® have played a large role in turning houses into homes and streets into neighbourhoods. Going beyond the scope of the residential landscape, TRREB Member REALTORS® have provided client services across Toronto’s diverse commercial and industrial community.
TRREB’s objective was to “raise the standard of ethics and efficiency in the real estate business, [and] to protect the interests of all owners of property in the city as well as the interest of real estate Brokers.” By 1927, a Code of Ethics was approved, a crucial step to advancing the industry and gaining public trust. Today, TRREB stands as the largest real estate board in Canada.
Over the years, income growth, consumer confidence, immigration, and a secure job market have all contributed to Toronto’s real estate demand. The ideal of owning a home (or a storefront or a factory) has remained, and Toronto’s housing options allowed many to reach that dream. TRREB Member REALTORS® have been instrumental in, for most people, the largest financial transaction of their lives.
Now, a century after its founding, TRREB boasts more than 56,000 Members, with more than 87,425 annual home sales transactions and an average price of $810,316 (2019).
